This illustration is a composition for The Three Blind Mice. I thought it would be funny to style the mice in 1970's retro clothing. So the male mice are wearing flared bell-bottom pants and have shirts with the flared collars and cuffs. I wanted to give the woman mouse a hippie-look with her shirt-like dress, which was a style common to that decade. Although Go-Go boots were commonly white or black, I felt she needed a bit of flash. So she is wearing purple boots, as well as a Peace-sign necklace. This illustration consists of photography, watercolour, ink and various digital layers that have been merged together. The tones of the original photo have been muted a bit to bring out the foreground drawing. Digital shadows and a floor have also been added. The photo of the cheese rounds was taken in a shop in Alkmaar, Holland. No mice were seen there at the time of the photo. This illustration was submitted to Illustration Friday: Retro theme.
