Surprising fact: creativity is sexy

It doesn't matter what season we are in, creativity is considered sexy! As a creative person I found it interesting to note that “producing artwork functions as a mating display” This is according to Status and mating success amongst visual artists . Who knew?!

It makes sense that we are seen as attractive in the eyes of those who don’t have the ability to create aesthetically pleasing things. There is a certain mystique associated with someone who can write beautiful stories, or create amazing illustrations.

Artists and writers allow people to escape to fantastical make-believe worlds. Their stories and art move and inspire us. They make us feel good, and people want to be a part of that world. That said, paintbrush and “call of the wild” have never been in the same sentence for me – at least not up until now.

In the article Who finds Bill Gates sexy? Creative mate preferences ... there is evidence that creativity in the form of art, music or writing, is rated as sexy. Creativity in the form science or technology is not considered so.

This article suggests creative people generally have more of a sexual appeal than the tech geeks. If you saw Bill Gates and Barry White walking down the street, who would you pine for?

So in celebration of Spring and all things creative – make like a peacock and strut your creative stuff! The rest of the world may just “love” you for it.
