Tweet chats and topics for illustrators and writers

Whether you are new to social media or not, one of the best ways to make connections is through a Twitter live chat. You can not only make new friends, but you have the opportunity to ask all sorts of questions with others in your industry.

It is easiest to participate in a tweet chat if you log in to a platform such as TweetDeck or Twchat. Chats tend to be “rapid fire”, and sometimes hard to follow. What I do is log in on several devices. I monitor the @mentions, so I can reply to those that mention me.

Here is a list of some of the top tweet chat groups:
  • #artist_Chat – Weekly discussion with artists. They meet every Saturday 7:30 AM Pacific
  • #kidlitArt - Weekly chat for illustrators, picture book authors and author/illustrators. Topics announced in advance via @kidlitart. They meet on Thursdays at 6:00 PM Pacific.  If you miss the chat then read it over later on the kidlitArt blog.
  • #kidlitChat – Weekly discussion on writing books for children and young adults. They meet Tuesdays 6:00-7:00 PM Pacific. Follow @kidlitchat to find out more.
  • #LitChat - Weekly discussion with book lovers, readers and writers. It occurs Mondays and Wednesdays 1:00 PM Pacific. Follow @LitChat to find out more.
  • MGLitChat - Weekly Twitter chat focused on writing middle grade fiction and nonfiction. It occurs Thursdays 6:00-7:00 PM Pacific. Find out more info on the MGLitChat blog, or follow @mglitchat.
  • #‎MSWL - Manuscript wish lists - Agents and Editors are talking about the kinds of manuscripts they'd like to see. They do not want to see pitches on Twitter. If you miss the chat you can read it later on the MSWL blog.
  •  #poetry - They talk about poetry. Readers, writers, and all others encouraged to join. The group meets on Thursdays 6:00-7:00 PM Pacific.
  • #storyappchat - Weekly discussion for people who make kidlit apps and e-books. The group meets on Sundays at 6:00 PM Pacific.
  • #YALitChat - Weekly discussion for people who are interested in young adult literature. The group meets on Wednesdays 6:00-7:00 PM Pacific.
